Hanging With Herman: Goodbye California, Hello Sin City

Kenny went west to California to race on Saturday-and ended up staying until Monday.  Rain washed out the race on Saturday and the rescheduled running on Sunday and left teams with nothing to do but wait.  Monday proved to be well worth the wait, however, for Kenny and the No. 36 Shark team.

Kenny started 36th thanks to the qualifying washout, but was able to pass cars and run consistently all race long.  He moved steadily through the field, and even a small bobble on a pit stop didn’t keep the team from a very respectable 18th place finish.  Kenny says that the team is still coming together and they are all looking forward to each race.

“It was a long week with all the rain,” Kenny tells us.  “It looks like I have a really good group of guys on the Shark team.  We had one little miscue at the very end.  On the last pit stop NASCAR said my guys went over the wall too early, so instead of going back out 12th, we had to start on the tail end of the longest line, which was about 24th or 26th.  We got back to 18th.  We have a lot of room for improvement, I’m just so excited about it!”

This week it’s off to Sin City for the Sam’s Town 300 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Kenny has a top ten finish in five races at LVMS so far, and says that the team is excited about this week, even though their newness is still plain to see.

“We are taking the same car as California to Las Vegas because we don’t have any other cars ready yet-that is how raw this team is,” Kenny explains.  “But I’m really looking forward to it!” he adds.  The team will need to race in on time this week, with 45 cars on the entry list.

Since the rain delay kept everyone on the West Coast for an extra day, Kenny and Kim decided to head straight to Las Vegas for a little R&R before the next race.

“After the rain delay, Kim and I decided to come right in to Las Vegas,” Kenny says. “Thursday I am playing in a charity golf tournament in Phoenix.  Tuesday, we went to see UNLV basketball play San Diego State.  We’re having a good time and relaxing.  It was a really heavy last two weeks and we needed to lighten things up!”

Kenny will also be appearing with teammate Mike Bliss and Steve Harwell at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Friday night at 8:30.
